In his book Outlive, Dr. Peter Attia raises concerns about how healthcare often approaches chronic diseases like cancer and cardiovascular disease reactively in the same way they fix a broken bone, —treating the symptoms rather than addressing root causes and focusing on prevention.
This observation made me reflect on how organizations, especially healthcare systems, approach their operations management. Often, these processes lack scientific design (e.g., the application of Lean's 4 rules) and on-the-floor presence, placing significant responsibility on frontline leaders. However, with the right support and a focus on continuous improvement, organizations have the potential to build more resilient and proactive systems that benefit everyone involved.
This is the purpose of my work—fixing work systems before they break by building highly reliable and practical management systems.
